I'm a big fan of Joshilyn Jackson - I stumbled upon her books this summer and enjoyed all of them. I see you read Gods in Alabama - check out The Girl Who Stopped Swimming and Between, Georgia. She also has a fantastic blog here:

I just finished A Book Thief a day or two ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. It reminded me of Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. I noticed his Everything is Illuminated made the 1001 Must Reads. I would probably choose "Extremely" for that list over "Everything." :) We'll have to come up with our own 100 Must Reads. A personal challenge for 2009? :)
